Welcome to NWEM's April newsletter. Spring has sprung and we have some
exciting news to share with you!
New
Leadership
NWEM's
founder Kelly Sharples will be busy preparing for a big move at
the end of 2010. Kelly decided in March to pass the NWEM torch over
to Summer Myers and Angie Williams. Summer and Angie are excited
about the transition and have ideas for growing the organization.
They will continue to provide members with networking, mentoring,
continuing education programs and events. They have both been on
board with Northwest Enterprising Moms from the beginning, Summer
setting up our website and Angie acting as the Secretary and Membership
Committee lead. Our thanks to Kelly for her vision and leadership
over the past two years.
We will continue to keep you up to date
with organization news and member happenings on a bi-monthly basis.
All members are welcome to contribute to the

Keep
your eyes open for Kakaduty Leashes commercials!!
The
ads actually start airing on Monday, April 20th. They'll run for
two weeks on Bravo, Fit TV and Discovery Health (Comcast digital
channels only) as a test market in 21 cities. If Lynn sells enough,
Kakaduty commercials will go national. The test market cities are:
Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas/Ft Worth, San Francisco/Oakland/San
Jose, Boston, Atlanta, Washington DC, Houston, Detroit, Phoenix,
Tampa/St Petersburg/Sarasota, Seattle/Tacoma, Minneapolis/St Paul,
Miami/Ft Lauderdale, Cleveland/Akron, Denver, Orlando/Daytona Beach,
Sacramento/Stockton/Modesto, St Louis, Portland. All sales on or
after the 20th count, no matter what the originating city is.
Kakaduty Leashes are simple to use. Just lift the velcro straps, drape the bag around and then snugly secure the straps. Your bag will stay put - you will never have to carry a doggy bag again!

About See Kai Run
See Kai Run and Smaller promote healthy development
of babies' and children's feet with their ultra-flexible soles,
soft leather and wide toe box. Our footwear meets the American Podiatric
Medical Association's rigorous standards for foot health and functionality
and has been awarded the APMA's prestigious Seal of Acceptance.
See Kai Run is a family-owned and operated business located outside
of Seattle, Washington. The idea was born when owner Cause Haun
was on a quest for the perfect first pair of shoes for her son,
Kai. Unable to find shoes in fun styles that still promoted the
healthy development of little feet, Cause and her husband created
their own line of shoes that satisfied all of these needs. In just
four years, See Kai Run has seen sales expand from a few boutiques,
mostly in the Seattle area, to stores all around the country and
worldwide. Please visit See Kai Run for additional information.

Notes
Q.
How do you keep the front door area clear of shoes, bags, etc?
This
is one of the most common frustrations I come across with my clients.
I find this especially hard for us here in the Pacific Northwest
as most homes have a no shoe policy. I am a big fan
of this policy for many reasons (for which I wont go into
here), but at the same time it can develop into shoe clutter.
On top of that for those living in smaller houses in the city with
no formal entry that means the shoe clutter is right
when you walk in not the most welcoming sight. Here are
a couple of ideas:
A.
Baskets have either one large basket for shoes, or ideally
if room allows, have a basket for each person in the house and their
shoes. When space permits have a bench for sitting and store the
baskets under the bench.
B.
Shoe organizer there are several shoe organizers out
there, many are basically mini-shelves. However Ikea makes a shoe
organizer which looks more like a piece of furniture. They have
a few different styles ranging in price and how many shoes they
hold the SANDNES (add hyperlink) holds 12 pairs and is $129.
C.
Create your own entry I wish I could take credit for
this idea but I can not in good consciousness. Recently I walked
into a new clients home and like many Seattle homes has no entry
and enters right into the living room. I was immediately impressed
with her solution for the coat, shoe, bags dilemma. Ann (thats
the clients name) took 2 bookcases, spaced them about 2 feet apart
and on the wall in the middle hung coat hooks. The lower shelves
in the bookcases hold shoes, purse, diaper bag, charging station,
while the upper shelves have home accessories since it is still
part of the living room. There are many variations you can play
with or Im happy to help you come up with the configuration that
works best for you.

Bring
on the Mama Drama!
Hey
Ladies, Well, I am at it again! Organizing and starting a new project.
This time it's a website especially for us mom's. It is called Mama
Drama USA and it is going to be a
site where you can go and vent your frustrations, challenges, funny
stories, victories about motherhood and raising your kids and also
read about other mom's going through the same things. My goal with
the site is to remind us that we are not alone in the challenges
we face raising our kids.
I need your help to make the site work
though. I am encouraging all the mom's I know to send me stories
about raising their kids. Ideas for stories could be: potty training,
poop, breastfeeding, pregnancy, funny things your kids have said,
frustrations you have about motherhood/being a wife, embarrassing
moments, dirty little secrets, etc... Anything you want to write
about, I want to hear it! I will be collecting new stories every
week and posting them on the site. I will then send out a weekly
email reminding people to visit the site and read the newest stories.
I will be adding a story myself each week. I will also be adding
links to stores and services that we mom's think are great.
Thank
you so much for helping me get the ball rolling on this project.
I think it will be great fun to read about our Mama Drama! Just
go ahead and reply to me personally with your stories at mamadramausa@comcast.net
and I will start putting them up on the site. Also, if you know
any other mom's who may want to submit a story I can send you, via
email, some info to pass along to them.
Please go visit the site and tell me what you think. I am always
open for suggestions.
